The Indiana Trail Racing Series utilizes a points-based scoring system to harmonize the various distances available to participants.
- Points are based on official race results. ITRA will not make any adjustments.
- Points are awarded through a combination of official finish, official distance, and official finishing place (overall and age group).
- 1-point will be awarded for completing a Series race. No points will be awarded for a Did Not Finish (DNF). If the race allows for “drop-downs,” you will receive points based on completing the distance that you dropped-down to.
- Points for distances are as follows:

13.1-26.1 Miles ……………………………………….. 3 points
26.2 Miles (Marathon) ……………………………. 4 points
50K – 49 Miles ………………………………………. 5 points

- Points for finishing place are as follows:

2nd Overall ……………………………………………… 5 points
3rd Overall ……………………………………………… 4 points
1st AG ………………………………………………………. 3 points

3rd-5th AG ……………………………………………………… 1 points
Final Series totals are based on each participants’ best four out of five races.
In addition, Participants can receive .1 bonus points per hour (Maximum of 10 points) for volunteering at a race, conducting trail maintenance or trail building, or crewing and pacing another runner. Volunteering is encouraged but not required.
Bonus points can also be earned by participating in OPSF. Get a flat 15 for running any distance. In addition you can submit up to 3 addition trail races in Indiana for 3 pts each or 9 total (Form Coming Soon)
To summarize, each Series participant gets 1 point for finishing a Series race, plus 1 to 8 points depending on the distance, plus 0 to 6 points based on finishing place, up to 10 bonus points for volunteering, 15 bonus for OPST, and up to 9 points for participating in other Indiana trail races. All participants that complete earn 20 points will receive a special swag award at the 2026 ITRA Holiday Party (December 2026). The top 3 males and 3 females, by points, will be given a special prize to commemorate their achievement.
